Review of postings for New to overclocking.. (the latest posts first)

As I followed to topics in the german part you should try to get a 2600+ with 1.45V and IQYHA stepping.
Unfortunately I don't have the time and money to try this one out.

Someone has achieved more than 2.9GHz with nearly 2V (and I don't think is was primestable). Keep realism and focus on having 2.5-2.6GHz

I'm getting a mobile processor now, and going to try to overclock that.  Should probably get a 2400?  or a 2600?

Of course, I was just joking.
600W is defenitly enough! (What ever you need it for)

They say that the minimum psu requirements is a 300W.  So, I think I'm okay.

perhaps I will invest in a GeForce 6800 when they are released.

Hopefully the PSU is good enough

The processor is okay, but I feel it's just not fast enough.
I'm now hitting at 2.45.  It's quite cool and stuff as well.  I'm expecting this computer to last me for the next 4 or 5 years.

Just bought a new psu too.  600W.

The video card suggestion...you were right.  I needed a new one.  I've had this one for a long time...  perhaps I will invest in a GeForce 6800 when they are released.

Isn't your CPU good enough for you? (ok, from oc point of view it isn't)

Before giving more than 100? for a new CPU you should replace your graphic card. A 5200 sucks. You better think about buying a 9800pro, a 5900xt or better.

Also the thermally conductive paste isn't that import. Once I tested the AS3 with the standard one I got with my Thermalright and the one I got with my old Titan TTC-CUV2. The Thermalright stuff was lacking 2 °C, but the Titan one was at the same level as the Arctic Silver. So don't care to much about this.

Extra Ram won't hurt.

The PSU should have enough reserves, but if you watch the voltages and tell us the values we might give  you a suggestion wether to replace or not.

Actually, the motherboard I'm using is a Shuttle nForce 2 Ultra 400 + MCP.  (AN35N)   All the overclocking settings are done via bios.  There's an option to go to "expert" settings, in which it lets me choose the FSB, ie 195, 196, etc.   Either way, the motherboard specs limit it at 200 (400).  I'm guessing I should also get another power supply as well?  It's only 450W.

So, here's what I currently use.
Shuttle nForce 2 Ultra 400
Kingston Hyper X PC-3500 (DDR433/512) x1
AMD Athlon XP 2800+
Volcano 12 Extreme (No Arctic Silver)
Seagate 120 gig (111/8mb)
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
eVGA nVidia GeForce FX 5200

That's pretty much it for main hardware.

I'm going to be investing in a better psu, a new cpu (Probably a Mobile proc), another stick of ram for dual channel, and perhaps some arctic silver.

Do u have jumpers on the board, where you can set the FSB?
On some boards are jumpers to set the FSB to 133,166,200.
Maybe in your case too.
Greetings

I had some weird problem.  I dunno if it was the processor or the motherboard, but it wouldn't let me get to 200.  I would attempt to, and it'll just go back down to 133, therefore dropping my speed to like 1.25ghz.  I wasn't pleased.  I shall continue messing with it.  Anyone still know a good voltage to run it at?  I think I lowered it back down to 1.7.
